The Songs of Broadway shines the spotlight on some of the finest theatrical moments from the greatest musicals of the century. Featuring two of Broadway's finest stars direct from New York City, these amazing performers light up the stage singing songs from the hit musicals they starred in and other outstanding Broadway shows. A jubilant revue of Broadway's most beloved songs, this dazzling evening includes smash hits from Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Guys and Dolls, Les Miserables, Chicago, The Sound of Music and more.

Christina Saffran Ashford and Norman Large have extensive and varied experience on Broad- way and worldwide, as well as in television, film, concerts, and recordings. Norman Large has starred in the original Broadway productions of Les Miserables, A Doll's Life, and Silverlake, as well as worldwide starring roles in numerous major productions including Phantom of the Opera, Cats, My Fair Lady, Sweeney Todd, Man of La Mancha, South Pacific, and many more.

Rene Pape takes on one of the greatest bass roles in a production by renowned theater and opera director Peter Stein, in his Met debut. Valery Gergiev conducts Mussorgsky's epic spectacle that captures the suffering and ambition of a nation. "Boris Godunov is a masterpiece," Stein says. "The challenge is to transmit the enormous emotional depth of the whole thing. Boris is the czar, but he is expressing a problem we all have: the consequences of human actions." The quartet will be returning for a second time after their popular performance last season. Hailed by the New York Times as "something extraordinary" and by the Boston Globe for their "fiercely committed performances," the Parker Quartet has rapidly distinguished itself as one of the preeminent ensembles of its generation. Alison is well known as a choreographer and as a Founding Artistic Director of Pilobolus Dance Theater. Alison's wide range of interest and ability has seen her through everything from replacing a warm-up band for the Frank Zappa Show to collaborating with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall to working with a Dine medicine woman named Walking Thunder. Alison founded Alison Chase Performance to enable her to pursue her passion for multidimensional story telling, fusions of film and dance; site-specific works; and museum installations. This band of ten is led by Natividad "Nati" Cano. A traditionalist and a visionary, Cano has both mirrored and shaped the history of mariachi music. He was born in 1933 into a family of mariachi musicians in Jalisco, Mexico, one of the many west Mexican communities that gave life to the mariachi tradition. Los Camperos de Nati Cano has existed for nearly 50 years and is noted for demanding musical arrangements that highlight the individual skills and voices of the players. The ensemble employs the finest musicians from Mexico and the United States and has performed for audiences worldwide.

Equally at home on the concert stage or at a Folk festival, Cape Breton Fiddler Natalie MacMaster is one of the most versatile and exciting young musicians on the Folk and Celtic music scenes. Her many projects have seen her collaborate and perform with Alison Krauss, the Chieftans, Paul Simon, Pavarotti and most recently, Yo-Yo Ma. In her Christmas show, Natalie invokes the holiday traditions of her native Cape Breton. British violinist Daniel Hope has toured the world as a virtuoso soloist for many years, and as the youngest ever member of the Beaux Arts Trio during its last six seasons. He is renowned for his musical versatility and creativity and for his dedication to humanitarian causes. Hope performs as soloist with the world's major orchestras and conductors, directs many ensembles from the violin, and plays chamber music in a wide variety of traditional and new venues. Born in South Africa and raised and educated in England, Hope earned degrees at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with renowned Russian pedagogue Zakhar Bron. Ladysmith Black Mambazo represents the traditional culture of South Africa and is regarded as the country's cultural emissary at home and around the world. In 1993, at Nelson Mandela's request, Ladysmith Black Mambazo accompanied the future President to the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. Mambazo sang again at President Mandela's inauguration in May of 1994. They are a national treasure of the new South Africa in part because they embody the traditions suppressed in the old South Africa.

This could not be a more appropriate description of the group Spectrum, which draws upon the talent of four radiant voices and diverse personalities to form a first class vocal quartet. After spending six stellar years recreating the sound and style of the Four Tops in Las Vegas' multi-million dollar production shows American Superstars and Legends In Concert, the group has developed the versatility to credibly cover the music of groups from the Platters to the Temptations to Boyz 2 Men. It is this versatility that has propelled them to status of headlining their own shows in which they perform stirring renditions of the all the best cover tunes. The Belcea Quartet has gained an enviable reputation as one of the leading quartets of the new generation. They continue to take the British and international chamber music circuit by storm, consistently receiving critical acclaim for their performances. The Quartet was established at the Royal College of Music in 1994 and has since been coached by the Chilingirian, Amadeus and Alban Berg Quartets.
