The extraordinary jazz trumpeter/composer Jason Palmer brings his ensemble to Maine for performances in Orono on March 7 and at UMaine Machias on March 8 at 7 p.m.

Jason Palmer has performed with jazz legends including Roy Haynes, Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Roy Hargrove. A Boston resident for over 20 years, he was named a Boston Artist in Residence for Music Composition and has received multiple fellowships from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

A prolific recording artist, Jason has released 17 albums as a leader and appeared on over 40 as a sideman. His work has been recognized by Downbeat Magazine, and he won 1st Place in the 2009 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition. His quintet held a 20-year residency at Boston’s Wally’s Jazz Café and has performed at major venues and festivals across the U.S.

In addition to an extensive touring career spanning over 40 countries, Jason serves as Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music, Jazz Trumpet Professor at the New England Conservatory, and the Ravenscroft Visiting Jazz Artist at Arizona State University. He has also taught at Harvard and the New School. Beyond music, he starred in Damien Chazelle’s 2010 film Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench.
